TRACK T800CDi Diesel Motorcycle

DIESEL POWERED - CONSTANTLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION

TRACK T800-CDI, the world’s only modern production diesel powered motorcycle.

The TRACK T800CDi is a new and totally unique motorcycle, developed over a period of six years under the design and manufacturing supervision of TRACK founder and CEO, Erik Vegt.

The three cylinder, common rail, turbo diesel engine, constantly variable transmission (CVT) and shaft drive combine to ensure that the TRACK stands out as a peerless engineering achievement delivering a distinctive, relaxed riding experience, complemented perfectly by the bike’s outstanding, contemporary styling.

Whilst OVIK is no longer the sole UK distributor of the TRACK Diesel motorcycle (we have decided to concentrate on vehicles with four or more wheels!) - we are very pleased to endorse the TRACK as a fantastic engineering achievement.

We have our original TRACK demonstrator - available for test rides - and available for purchase!

Track T800CDi - Review by G3 Magazine August 2011

G3 takes a look at the OVIK Group’s new offering; an ultra-modern diesel motorcycle from Dutch company EVA Products.

For years the defence sector, driven by the NATO single fuel policy, has sought a reliable and viable diesel motorcycle. Numerous attempts have ended variously in relative failure or partial success but now EVA Products of the Netherlands in concert with the UK’s OVIK Group offers the TRACK T800 CDi.

G3 provides an exclusive look at this ultra-modern take on the diesel motorcycle and asks… Is this the motorcycling Holy Grail for fleet operators?

At first look the TRACK T800CDi offers a tantalising reminiscence of modern classics such as the BMW R1200 GS ‘venture’ motorcycle – of Ewan McGregor and Charlie Boorman fame. The sleek lines, scribed by the sculpted fairings, the upright, purposeful stance and the sheer quality of the componentry immediately mark this out as a motorcycle contrived of quality, design flair and an eye for detail. This bike is quite patently designed and built by people who are passionate about motorcycles. There is however, one very fundamental difference between the TRACK T800CDi and any of its market rivals; the TRACK runs… on diesel.

The TRACK, designed by Dutch entrepreneur and engineer Erik Vegt and build by his company EVA Products (EVA standing for Erik Vegt Automotive) in Holland, is born of over six years of painstaking design, development and a good deal of risk-taking and investment.

Says Erik Vegt ‘I have basically built the motorcycle I knew I always wanted and needed’. Driven by a desire to increase fuel efficiency, power and torque, Erik knew that a viable diesel engined motorcycle could potentially provide a new riding experience combined with enormous fuel efficiency whilst opening up untapped potential markets. He hopes the motorcycle – which is already selling fast - will appeal to adventurous bikers and large fleet operators in the first instance but is confident that the diesel solution will become a mainstream option for bikers in the next few years as the TRACK T800CDi gathers momentum.

The biggest challenge was to find the right engine and then build the frame and the transmission around the engine to provide a bike with a true all-round capability, excellent ergonomics and diesel efficiency.

The TRACK T800 CDi is full of surprises; in addition to the ultra-modern Daimler-Benz 800CC common rail, turbo charged three cylinder diesel engine the motorcycle also boasts constantly variable transmission (CVT). On a motorbike of this magnitude CVT is something of a departure from the norm – but then absolutely nothing about this bike can be said to be ‘normal’. Erik Vegt doesn’t do ‘standard’ or ‘normal’… it’s just not his way. In essence the TRACK has no conventional gears, no clutch and no foot operated gear change which, for a dyed-in-the-wool biker can prove a tad disconcerting at the very outset of the first journey; but five minutes in the saddle and even the most conventional of motor-cyclists makes the adjustment to a clutch-free left hand with ease. The transmission works on a simple ‘twist and go’ principle – wind up the throttle and the bike accelerates…. wind off or hit the brakes and the bike slows down; it’s as simple as that! No gears, no clutch-control necessary. This offers massive benefits for fleet operators such as defence customers with limited time and resources for training whilst cutting down on maintenance costs. The TRACK is unbelievably simple to ride. With a top speed of well over 100mph and fuel efficiency in the region of 120 mpg along with enormous servicing intervals and massive reliability (one of the engines has so far covered 600,000 km) combined with myriad optional extras such as panniers and hand guards it’s difficult to see this bike being anything other than an big hit.

EVA has teamed with OVIK Special Vehicles for all UK imports and sales, across all sectors. Duncan Hermer, MD of the OVIK Group said ‘we are enormously proud to support EVA products and the TRACK T800 CDI in the UK and in particular across the defence, government and private fleet sectors’. OVIK has the TRACK T800 CDi on display on their stand at DSEi and welcomes all interested parties for a viewing and a brief. Trials and demos will be available throughout the autumn, winter and spring via the OVIK Group – www.oviks.com

Incidentally, Vegt means ‘fight’ in Dutch; a highly appropriate name we feel.
